Pam Munoz Ryan, the author of Esperanza Rising, applies character growth to this intriguing book to illustrate how much Esperanza changes by going through several conflicts. Character growth, or someone in a book undergoing a change in their personality, clearly shines through to make this story stimulating and exciting. Throughout the novel Esperanza Rising, Esperanza goes through tremendous growth in her personality by becoming more mature and less self-centered.
