No food, no heat, and no mother to take care of the family. Riva’s mother was taken away by the Nazi’s never to return. The house has been cold ever since they took away the wood. They didn’t have any coats or wood to keep them warm. Frozen in place with nothing to help or save their family from being taken away.
Motele, Moishele, and Laibele are Riva’s three brothers. They are all brave, caring, and loving. When Laibele was 13 he got tuberculosis and later on died due to illness. Motele feels responsible to keep his family healthy and safe. He decides to steel wood to keep his family warm. Moishele is also a very caring and loving person. Whenever someone is feeling down, he is there for them and trying to cheer them up.
