This case between Charles Schenck and the United States involves the first amendment of the U.S constitution. This amendment protects one’s right of freedom of speech, freedom of press, and the right to peaceably assembly. Schenck was arrested for violating the Espionage Act on three counts. The Espionage Act is an act that made it illegal during war to make false statements with intent to interfere with the success of the military and the naval forces.He was sentenced and served six months in prison.
