In this geologic map it is easy to see how the environment changes from flat to mountains. Colorado Rockies are primarily made up of fold and faults. The Combination of uplift and weathering along with being a convergent bound has made the Rockies one of the biggest mountain ranges. Chautauqua park is located in the lower left corner of the map by boulder. Although there is a variety of rocks in boulder to the north there is a wider concentration and variety. Some of the fascinating geologic features found in colorado are arches, caves, valleys, and alluvial …show more content…
Colorado weather can change from sunny to snowing within an hour. Because Colorado is located at such a high elevation its environment is unique. This arid environment makes it easy for rocks to erode and brake down. This speeds up the process of uplift further changing the beautiful Colorado landscape. “Colorado State has 54 mountains 14 of which are higher than 14,000 feet” (history). Colorado’s extreme landscapes and climate make it a great place to study geology.
Surface Water
Water is Colorado is relatively easy to find you just have to go towards the mountains. Colorado is known for having great skiing and this snow provides Colorado with great water as well. The water source that is closest to Chautauqua is the Boulder Creek. The Boulder Creek has a relatively fast pace supplies nutrients to the surrounding area. The gradient of this stream starts off steep but as you follow it down the mountain it decreases. Boulder Creek is a intermittently meaning it doesn't flow all year round. This creek depends heavily on rain fall and has played fundamental role in the development of Chautauqua
