In the novel Wild:From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail, author Cheryl Strayed describes the impact of her mother’s death when Strayed was only twenty-two. She shares her trials and tribulations in bad relationships and in her spiraling heroin addiction, her weary spirit on the trail and too tight boots, and ultimately her fight and literal journey to self discovery. However, were her extreme efforts a match with those endured and accomplished in modern day heros? Is her tough and determined behavior enough to be a hero in all aspects of the definition? No. Cheryl Strayed is not a modern day hero for her actions do not affect others besides herself,
