During the late 16th century into the 17th century Europe swiftly colonized two regions of the New World, the Chesapeake and the New England areas. The differences between these two regions originated from the reason these settlers arrived in the New World. This affected the colonies lifestyles, economies and political choices.
The Chesapeake region consisted of Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The motives for settlement for the Chesapeake lay solely on commercial and profit, for example, the search for silver, gold, and a northwest passage to Asia.
