The main merit of Chicago Public Schools, also known as CPS, has been an issue of budgeting this past decade. I remember when it first started when I was in my first year of high school after finding out the unfortunate news that the Chicago Teachers Union will be on strike because of their budget cuts and closings of schools. As a former CPS student, it’s also impacted me and my peers. As for City Colleges of Chicago, also known as CCC, the main merit that has been an issue is that it’s been rarely spoken in the news, especially since CCC has played a big part for many who pursue successful careers in Chicago. Since the Chicago Teachers’ Union strike in 2012, that’s when every local news station and newspapers went into this issue themselves to ask general questions such as why is it happening and is the issue still in going on? But, to become prior to my topic of the shuttered schools, I hope to find out what was the original plan of the mayor and the Board of Education, why is it still an issue now along with the budget crisis, and are the residents affected by it as well as the students and the parents? The questions could be more specific to Chicago Public Schools system in general later. Not much information can be tracked in CCC unless it’s found within the tools, such as websites and offices prior to students’ needs. There’s not many articles about CCC either. I find it unfortunate since I had recently seen an article past July about the recent cuts of workers in the CCC headquarters in downtown. It was just speculated a bit and then set off to the side. It’s quite strange, yet something I wish to go deeper into. My intention for CCC is to address the issue that the CCC system should be more praised about their effectiveness of having students be academically ready for careers and even further four year colleges and
