The child observed was a 3-year-old female who lives with her mother, stepfather, 10-year-old brother in a three-bedroom house in the eastside area of Jacksonville, Florida. The child’s mother and stepfather both share the same religion which is African Methodist Episcopal (AME). They all attend church is weekly. The family has a house dog. The child does not attend daycare. The stepfather is the provider and the mother is a stay at home mom. The child’s normal routine is to she wakes at 9 am, have breakfast while watching “Barbie and Cat Boy and Lady Bug,” color, and listen as her mother reads books aloud. The child naps in her bedroom for a nap at 12 pm for 1 or 2 hours. When she wakes from her nap more play time is given. Dinner follows with a variety of finger foods with a sippy cup filled with juice. The child is normally bathed by her mother at 7 pm. The child and her mother watch TV until her bedtime at 9 pm (Child’s mother, personal communication, February 17, 2108).

The child demonstrated the different categories of attachment. The child was comfortable as mother leaves to and from room she was content as she knew her mother was close by. Although after speaking with her mother she stated when child is left with family members the outcome was quite different. Mother stated, as she leaves she cries out her secure attitude when mother is around quickly turns into avoidant towards the family member after mother leaves out the door. After a few moments she calms down and is now at the insecure stage this relates to Bowlby with his secure and avoidant stages. (Cronin &
