Children progressing onto school life is an expected transition as the department of education Northern Ireland have a legal requirement for children 4years old and above to attend school in Northern Ireland, According to (Education, 2017) in relation to the child’s age. During this expected transition children who attend the primary school setting where I am completing my practice get to attend open days to explore the environment and play which introduces them to the school and allows them to get emotionally ready for the change that is going to take place. Open days may not provide some children with enough stability during this transition as there may not be enough opportunities to hold an open day regularly coming up to the school beginning which can throw a child off and emotionally have an impact making them nervous. I believe that when some children start school that it can upset them emotionally as they are more than likely used to being with their family and coming to school is a far stretch to what they are normally used to. I have witnessed children coming to my setting displaying behaviours, such as; crying and kicking and I believe this could be because it’s possibly this child’s first time being separated from his/her mother. Bowlby has made me realise that if we provide a high standard quality of care and show affection to the children by praising them and engaging with them one-to-one then the children can form positive relationships with the practitioners in the setting. An inclusive approach to the children beginning one of the biggest transitions in their life which is attending education, then it can make transitions easier to overcome in the future. (McLeod,
