The article provided explains how child maltreatment can have an influence on a child’s development in life. Another research that was conducted to see the effect of maltreatment found interesting results correlated DID with maltreatment in childhood as well. In the journal Annual Review of Psychology researchers examined a study conducted on a group of children who got opportunity to live with a normal and supportive caregiver to whom he compared to another group who lived in a more radical condition (Cicchetti, 2016). The second group of children were exposed to maltreatment whether it was physical, verbal, mental abuse, or suffered from neglection. Not only the type of maltreatment they received was important for the study, but also the period of time the child received the maltreatment could also affect the child’s psychological development. Researchers concluded that in fact child maltreatment can have an effect on the child’s psychological, but also biological development. The longer that person continues being maltreated the more difficult it is for them to pursue a normal developed life.
