Cynthia Crosson-Tower is the author of the chapter called Children, our most important resources. This chapter was very illuminating; one import topic I chose to summarize is the “attachment”. Crosson-Tower explained attachment and its importance on a child’s life and development. Thoroughly, she describes examples of attachment disorders such as parents having substance abuse problems, violence in the home, a child being battered or abandoned, deprived economic situations, terrible environments plus estrangement. Another thing the author expounds is that when one attachment is disturbed, it can have a profound effect on several constituents of a child’s life. The phrase I chose to be “Attachment is the deep and enduring connection established between a child and caregiver in the first Several years of life. It profoundly influences every component of a human’s condition, body, relationships and values”, (Crosson-Tower, 2018, p.15). The reason I chose this phrase because I agree with it 100% and it is so overpoweringly accurate. People like to blame and judge others, if they would read and grasp this one phrase, they may not be so quick to blame or judge and possibly understand. Crosson-Tower also mentions that sometimes when child welfare (CW) has to intervene when a child is in danger and remove the child to protect them. Lastly, the author explains that being detached from the parent(s) or caregiver also hinders their development, ability to trust, their affection, their capability to emphasize, along with complying to a caregiver. Being detached may also from amplify child’s rage, cause them to be –destructive to themselves or property, and possibly cause hyperactivity.
