CONSTRUCTED RESPONSE 1.

Imagine having a law that dictates you to only have one kid per family, which also happens to be a law that favors females and a law that tells you how to live your life. This law is called the One Child Policy. The One-Child Policy was a bad idea for China due to a lot of economic and emotional costs to children and families.

The One-Child Policy was very unnecessary because it is shown that other countries can find a way to stabilize and reduce population size without limiting family freedom. Document B states that "Most of China's fertility decline occurred prior to the One-Child Policy. In a country without a foreful and costly policy like China's, birth rate has declined with similar trajectories and magnitude" (Document B). This ultimately shows that China could have found a different solution to this problem instead of a policy that is so costly in so many different ways. China's population was already declining before the policy was announced, making some question the necessity of the policy. Other countries have found less damaging policies or laws and China can too.

Singleton Daughters were described as "Their parents only treasure, since the 1980's singleton daughters in China's cities have enjoyed privileged childhoods,different from their male counterparts..." (Document D). Showing that the One-Child Policy only "favored" females while giving males an understanding of an unfair childhood having to compete for resources and parents attention all while getting into the work force at such a young age being deprived of what a real childhood is like and being left to wish that they had the lives of their female
