During the Song Dynasty (976 AD) the Chinese started to attach gunpowder based propellant to an arrow to provide thrust and they would fire them in large amounts. By the 11th century, rockets started to be used more frequently in war and started to be developed even further. They soon developed the fire dragon issued from water or the fire dragon for short. It was made in 1300 AD and is composed of a large piece of bamboo with a dragonhead that had gunpowder filled charges attached to the outside and propelled the missile. The mouth in the front was also loaded with gunpowder that would be used to explode the enemy ship in naval warfare. When first lit, the fire dragon started the second stage that propelled it faster and further and then made it explode on contact. Even if the enemy was too far away, it would shout out three rocket arrows from its mouth. Again, the Chinese had not only discovered gunpowder over a millennium and a half before the Europeans, but they had also created many destructive missiles and two stage rockets at the same time the Europeans had started to master the
