This paper examines pearl poet’s use of combining two types of folklore motifs in relation to his poem, especially the use of the beheading game and the exchange of winnings. In particular, I shall examine Pentangle figure of Sir Gawain shield as it pertain to his own chivalry and what I wish to describe as “Nobility and Courtly love.” Beginning with Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, I argue poet uses a supernatural figure such as the Green Knight, to show if Gawain is a noble knight to King Anther and to the lord of the castle and what can he do to keep his chivalry. I conclude by examining the poet’s final fit from his book Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. While Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, the two men of the story, appear in the Green
