In Chris Gabbard’s narrative, “A Life Beyond Reason,” he explains how his son, August, who suffers from cognitive and mental disabilities, has affected his life. To begin, the hospital August was born at did not perform a Caesarian Section when needed and this resulted in August’s disabilities. The author starts out by explaining the disabilities August has and how they affect him and how they have impacted the family. For example, the family is dependent upon him to care for August, because his wife suffered from a neck injury while caring for him and their daughter, Clio, is too young.
