During Chris McCandless' time in Mexico, he lived on nothing more than "five pounds of rice and what marine life he could pull from the sea," and Krakauer points out that this may have accounted for the young man's belief that he could live off the land in the Alaskan wilderness. This was an arrogant decision on McCandless' part. I find it very odd for McCandless to believe that he could survive in the Alaskan wilderness simply because he had survived in the harsh Mexican climate. Because every situation is very different and these two trips are from different extremes, also that he could never know what circumstances that he could potentially encounter in every different environment. Therefore, he can't base the outcome from a past experience
