Out of all the people Chris McCandless met on his trip, there were only three that truly understood and felt where he was coming from, leaving a great impact on each individual. Since Chris was always traveling to different places, he met many people wherever he went. Jan Burres, Wayne Westerberg, and Ron Franz were some of the few people that Chris deeply affected. These were the people that Chris could consider friends. He spent a lot of great time and made a lot of memories with them and they accepted Chris and his beliefs.

Wayne was the owner of a mill and employed Chris. Wayne always talked about how great of an employee Chris was to him and how much Chris helped him out with everything going on. Chris was inspired by Wayne. He represented the middle class and was nothing like his father who only cared about money and himself. This opened Chris’ eyes and taught him that not everyone was like his father, no matter how much money you have. Wayne was deeply inspired by Chris because he was such a great worker to him and an amazing friend as well. Wayne tried to convince Chris to make him stay longer and he wished that he would have stuck around longer than he actually did. Ron is a widow who had a son and wife who died forty years ago while in Japan for the military and fighting for his country. Since Ron lost his whole family,he didn’t have any kids nor a wife so he felt alone and chris’s company made him feel loved again. After staying with chris for a while, and getting to know him Ron asks Chris if it was a good idea that he wanted to adopt him and take care of him as his son. While on his adventure, Chris convices Ron to go out again and try many different new things, meet new people instead of dying in his own guilt about what made his family fall apart. Chris convinces him to sell all his possessions that he had held back all these years and to go out on the same journey chris was doing. He agrees to his proposal hoping that Chris will be with him at all times but really only ends up alone on the road once again, and wishing for his death to come sooner than expected. Chris left a deeply emotional impression on Ron, he tried to convince him that being alone is not always the right way to live your life. He showed him that he still has more life left in him than what he expected and he should try and use that in every good way as possible instead of thinking about what his life would be like right now.
