Chris would always push himself rather than to get help from somebody. In chapter 6 Westerberg explains “I even offered to buy them him a plane ticket to Fairbanks, which would have let him work an extra ten days and still get to Alaska by the end of April, but he said ‘No I want to hitch north. Flying would be cheating. It would wreck the whole trip.’ (Krakauer 67). McCandless had free ride right there, but chose to say no, and do things the hard way. It made Chris have more satisfaction about himself when he accomplished things on his own rather than help from other people. Aside from when his father would just give him money for nothing that is why before he left he gave his trust fund to a foundation. That makes me see he does not have mental problems, he just doesn't agree with the way of how things in the world
