Many people are willing to risk their lives to do something they love, such as Jon Krakauer. Krakauer went on a journey similar to Chris’s. He decided to climb the Devil’s Thumb and describes his story in Into the Wild. He was well prepared and had experience with climbing. He took a dangerous, unclimbed route because he wanted to explore. This is similar to McCandless’ journey because they both were at risk of losing their lives during it. The only difference is that Chris did not inform anyone of his location or prepare properly. Another example of bravery is expressed in Divergent by Veronica Roth. Tris says, "Eric called Al’s suicide brave, and he was wrong. My mother’s death was brave. I remember how calm she was, how determined. It isn’t just that she died for me; it is brave that she did it without announcing it, without hesitation, and without appearing to consider another option." Her mother’s death is looked at by society much like Chris’s. Many people called her death foolish and pointless. Much like Chris, she died for something she loved; she was protecting her daughter.
