Specifically, Traber claims that excess text messaging can negatively impact social relationships in youth because during child development it is important to establish relationships, however Traber argues that cell phone usage at a young age does not allow children to gain the ability to effectively interact face to face. Thus, leading to complications of learning the skills needed as an adult. Nevertheless, texting has the ability to benefit relationships, especially long distances.
