In this assessment I will be talking about a parable called ‘The sheep and the goats’. A parable is a short simple story in the bible that Jesus told to teach us spiritual lessons or to illustrate morals to make us all better people.
I think that the key events of this parable are when Jesus separated the people into two different groups, the sheep on his right and the goats on his left, I think he did this because he wanted to show that there are two types of people in the world the goats who are selfish and don’t do anything for anyone but themselves and the sheep’s who are generous and kind who do things for each other, he wanted to give something back to the sheep because of what they have done for him, he gave them gift of going to heaven because they have done something which has helped him. I also think that another key event was when the King said “Depart from me, you who are cursed into the eternal fire”. I think it was a key event because he is trying to say you haven’t done anything for me so you don’t deserve to go to heaven you’re going to hell! I think that when the king said “Whatever you did not do for one of the least of these you did not do for me” I think that this was a key event because he is saying that the goats are selfish and will only do what they think is best for themselves. Unlike the sheep’s “ Whatever you did for one of the least these brothers of mine you did for me” I think he is trying to say that when you help one another you are also helping the King.
I think that an interpretation of this parable would be that the way to go to heaven and eternal life is by being good, kind, generous and helping people in need, also to have consideration and compassion for one another. Another interpretation of this parable might be that those who don’t believe in God are not helpful, kind and considerate will not enter into the kingdom of God.
I think that this parable teaches Christians how they should act because all Christians would want to be and should be sheep’s because they should follow the way of God. This parable teaches them this because if they want to go to heaven and eternal life they would learn to be considerate, kind generous they would help others and wouldn’t be greedy and selfish. Christians are taught the difference between good and evil by reading the scriptures and from the bible.
In today’s society there are clear examples of sheep’s and goats. “I was sick and you took care of me”. An example of a sheep would be someone who works for somewhere where they help you and take good care of you when you sick or injured e.g.- Doctors and Nurses, hospitals, the British red cross. An example or a goat would be someone who doesn’t care for you and just turns you away when you are sick and in need for some help. Another example in today society “I was a stranger and you welcomed me in” An example of a sheep is someone who sets up or works for homeless shelters, someone who welcomes me in and puts a roof over their head for a couple of days and supplies you with some of the essentials food and water. An example of a goat would be someone who ignores people who are living on the streets and doesn’t acknowledge
