A main concern of this generation is the environment and the current changes occurring with in it that are detrimental to society. Within today’s society, non-believers, radical environmentalists, and the progressive left have all come to the conclusion that Christianity is anti-environment. Hover, this could not be further from the truth. It is the duty of a Christian to protect the environment that God has blessed them with. Unfortunately because of man’s sinful nature, people have slowly caused the destruction of the environment. On the other hand, in order to be good examples and good stewards there are many actions Christian’s can take in order to restore and preserve the environment.

“In America alone, about 4.4 pounds of trash is generated daily, which makes for 254 million tons each year.” (Melissa Breyer) Additionally, 12 feet is the “height of a wall from Los Angeles to New York City that could be made from tossed office paper every year” and “300 Laps around the equator that could be made in paper and plastic cups, forks, and spoons disposed of annually” (Melissa Breyer). With the amount of waste buildup made by American’s alone, it is not entirely impossible to encounter a future landfill deficit and the amount of trash in landfills can lead to some serious impacts on the environment. “Despite careful engineering, they can leak liquids into the groundwater. Landfills also release one-fourth of all methane; landfill and wastewater treatment gases made up 2.3 percent of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions in 2005” (Dan Kulpinski). A number of denominations, for example, have passed resolutions urging their members to be more active in environmental issues.” This is a great start, as Christian’s are called upon to protect the earth. “When we fail to see the world as God’s creation, we will end up abusing it. Selfishness and greed take over, and we end up not caring about the environment or the problems we are creating for future generations. It is not surprising that some of the world’s worst environmental damage was done by the old atheistic regimes of Eastern Europe” (Billy Graham). The Bible tells says “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it” (Psalm 24:1). The mature Christian is to realize that lack of respect for creation is lac of respect for the creator. The last thing a Christian should do is neglect their given responsibility to protect the environment. To honor and respect God’s creation is glorifying to God.
Christianity teaches the principle that Christian’s are made in the image of God and called to be like God. Genesis 1:26-27 reads, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created
