Explain how the teaching role involves working with other professionals (Learning outcome 3.1)
My role as a future FGM (Female Genital Mutilation) trainer, will involve working with other professionals. These will vary depending on the location and the specific course. Some professionals will include midwives, nurses, doctors and other healthcare professionals, particularly if I am delivering a training session in a hospital or medical environment. I will also work with members of the police force, social services and other safeguarding professionals. In addition to these, I will also have to liaise with administrative staff and facilities staff to ensure the smooth running of the sessions. These professionals will support me in a number of situations, for example care takers and key-holders will have access to buildings (this is important particularly when delivering training sessions in the evenings, on weekends or in non-conventional buildings for example a church or community centre); facilities staff can be called upon if I have difficulties with computers, projectors or any other equipment; and administration staff will support me if I need to access to photocopying or printing facilities. Fellow colleagues and teaching assistants (or facilitators) are also vital in supporting my role as a trainer; I may refer to them for advice and guidance on learners’ work and, I may need their support, or that of my superior, should I face a challenging situation. If I am delivering a joint session, I will have to liaise with my colleague during the stages of preparation and, possibly, afterwards.

In the instance of the boundaries of each professional not being defined in any texts – such as a rule
