Johnny Can’t Tell Right from Wrong she is trying to project her view that society is heading on a downward spiral due to the way our youth and young adults are being educated today. In her writing she said:
“Conceptually and culturally, however, today’s young people live in a moral haze.” By this I think she is saying that all the young people are living in moral confusion and in reality don’t know what’s right from wrong. This isn’t the direction our youth should be working towards.
We are blinded by the media and unable to formulate our own opinions on key issues in our society and tend to just follow the crowd.
Personally, I would say her observations are untrue about me, I like to think that I am capable of seeing beyond what the media says and what I have been taught in school enabling me to formulate and express my own views. I am knowledgeable and well read on most topics and wouldn’t answer as ridiculously as some of the college students did on the
Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Everyone seems to be so consumed with their own lived and looking out for themselves and even the act of volunteering has become a double edged sword where people are benefiting from volunteering. How is it doing a good thing for someone if you’re benefiting from it by throwing it on resumes so that you can get a good job or get scholarship for the work you’ve done. This shows that volunteering isn’t even volunteering it just working with a delayed reward for payday. I admit that I fall into this category and I have volunteered for my own personal benefit but at the same time I also do it because it makes me feel good about
