Short Essay #2 Christology As I was walking two men approached me, handing me some literature on why Jesus was a man and therefore could not also be God. They then asked me, what did I think of their claim? I replied, I am thankful for the birth of Jesus in man form but if Jesus is in fact just a man, we are all doomed to Hell, because his humanity and deity cannot be separated one does not exist without the other. You see it was the council of Chalcedon that decided because Jesus was born to Mary and she was human, that Jesus too must be human, meaning that he was equal to us in manhood. They decided that the deity and humanity of Christ exists without division, confusion, or change. Making Christ’s divinity and humanity equal, one person with no separation of the two however it is an unchangeable union. I would also explain that, it was necessary for Jesus to be born human for a number of reasons. Take for example (Galatians 4:4-5) “But when the time had fully come”. Only a perfect human Jesus Christ could fulfill the law, thereby redeeming us from sin, which He accomplished, by exchanging His perfect righteousness for our sin as well we could look at (2 Corinthians 5:21). It was also important for Jesus to be fully human because God deemed it necessary for the shedding of blood for the remission of sins of man. “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” Or as we also

read in (Leviticus 17:11 Hebrews 9:22). Jesus Christ the perfect Lamb of God, Sacrificed His human life and shed His human blood to cover the sins of all who would ever believe in Him. If he had not been human this would have been impossible as God could not sacrifice Himself for our sin without human blood. Also there was a need for Him to suffer physical pain; and endured the sorrows of a cruel and unusual death that only a human being could experience and understand through that experience. We also learn of His deity throughout the scriptures as well. Jesus knew that His claim to be God was not enough to make Him God (John 5:31) “If I testify about myself, my testimony is not true”. However we know that it is an essential doctrine and is likewise a non-negotiable belief within Christianity that Jesus is also God, this is known as the “Divinity of Christ”, and it shows that Jesus Christ was and is God incarnate. We also read throughout the Bible, that Christ was worshiped, and that He accepted the worship of himself because only God has the authority to be worshipped, and Jesus accepting this worship teaches us that Jesus too was God, and shows his deity. Many people taught that Jesus was worthy to be worshipped which again, points
