First of all we began by discussing the importance of Siobhan as a narrative presence in the story.
We were then issued the task of creating our own interpretation of the first scene of the curious incident of the dog in the night time. Whilst doing this we decided to use narration, lighting, levels and movement to explore the potential of this scene. Whilst brainstorming ideas with our group; one of our members (Hassan) contributed the idea that we should use narration. This sparked a discussion and we ultimately felt narration would be particularly effective as it would show his thoughts to the audience because people with autism have a tough time showing emotion; so we felt the only way to communicate his emotions to the audience was by narrating everything that he thought. This is important as we felt that Christopher is a very complex character so it would be useful to help the audience understand his character more as well as foreshadowing his emotions. Furthermore we were issued the task of analysing quotes and expressing whether they were a true representation of Christopher Boone. A quote that I found particularly interesting was when Christopher was talking about himself in a closet for hours panicking and simply trying to stay calm. This was insightful it gave me insights on Christopher’s mentality and highlighted to me that Christopher’s mind at some points became so jam-packed with information that it often overloaded and caused tremendous pain for Christopher to the point of break down. Moreover this helped me understand the way Christopher’s mind works and lead me to conclude that I had been exploring him inaccurately and needed to make some
