Overall, Christopher Columbus’s use and description of language and communication served as a way to show supremacy over the natives that he had encountered. We can see this exhibited by Seed as she discusses the properties behind Columbus’s naming conventions as a display of superiority, by converting lands into the new European status. This is further explored by Greenblatt when he brings up the possibility that Columbus believed the Indigenous people could not object even if they were to understand the proclamations. Moreover, Olschki provides more insight into Columbus’s geographical descriptions by painting them as both geographical surveys, as well as literary work from Columbus.
