Movies are entertaining works of art that the world has enjoyed since their creation in the late 1800’s. And with the advent of science fiction as a genre in the 1920’s, the movie industry began to demonstrate the power of empathy with the audience. Hit science fiction films include: A Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Universe, 2001 Space Odyssey, Blade Runner, Star Wars, etc. However, a film that successfully uses amazing art and design to its viewers is Interstellar. Director Christopher Nolan uses color, motif, line, and perspective mainly to emphasize the different scientists who worked on the mission. Many design elements were also used to emphasize certain scenes Nolan wanted the viewers to remember. Many visual cues and good synergy between visual elements led Interstellar to be rated a 9/10 movie by Metacritic. …show more content…
He is best known for Inception, The Dark Knight Trilogy, and Dunkirk. Many moviegoers state that they have to re-watch any of his movies at least two to three times before understanding the plot. While he was in his young adolescent year, he created a film group to study and explore film. Some critics point out his lack of formal training never really pushed him to conform to the linear industry standard. All of his movies use a specific structure; his movies never start at the main timeline, rather, he likes to start at the end of the timeline (Inception) or go to before the timeline starts (The Dark Knight). The audience then has a reference or a point of comparison to the main timeline. While the order seems to be off-putting and confusing to a novice moviegoer, Nolan’s fans critically acclaim how he incorporates non-linear plot sequence to make the problem or conflict more powerful and dire. However, without design and art elements to strengthen the plot, his movies wouldn’t be able to succeed at
