Filming Cleopatra took many years due to the fact that Elizabeth became very ill and was at the verge of death. She became infected with an illness called the 'Asian Flu'. This disease can affect the lungs, nose and throat. It causes many symptoms such as, fevers, muscle aches, cough, congestion, headaches and fatigue. You can't do much o get rid of it besides rest and consume many fluids.

Thankfully, when Taylor recovered, thy continued to film "Cleopatra". The movie was published in 1963. The movie was a huge success. The movie lasted 5 hours in 20 minutes. All that work paid off when Elizabeth received a paycheck of 7 million dollars.
