Chapter 1: An Introduction to Information Systems 1.
My degree is in business administration with a focus on Human Resources, part of my duties will be gathering and distributing information. Information systems are important to me because it will make my job of communicating more efficient. An information system also offers up-to-date information that allows the workflow to be current, and this will helps bring confidence to my decision making.

I will be using Human Resource Information Systems for payroll, management, accounting functions, and tracking data. Human Resources track the following.
• Attendance
• Pay raises
• Pay grades and positions held
• Performance development
• Training received
• Disciplinary action received
• High potential employee identification • applicant tracking and interviewing

The two basic types of software are system software and application software. Application software used at home and school are word processing, video editing, spreadsheets, and web browsers. 8.

The tax laws change almost every year, an application helps the consumer to avoid mistakes on their tax returns, and can be filed on-line thus avoiding the expense and trip to the post office. TurboTax Personal Tax Planner is new software that can cut tax bills. The consumer can compare financial statement as well as projecting a five-year tax plan. This process can help the consumer decide whether to buy or sell securities, or move other investments to protect them from higher taxation. This application also helps the individual to protect themselves from liabilities that could possibly cause an underpayment
