Civil Rights Activist: Rosa Parks

“People always say that I didn’t give up my seat because I was tired, but that is isn’t true. I was not tired physically… No, the only tired I was, was tired of giving in” (parks,116). Rosa Parks did not leave the seat for the white man because she knew she had to stand up for what was right. This led her to become a civil rights activist. Rosa Parks life was influenced by her early life. Her major accomplishment to American society included standing up to the white man and for all Black people who were scared to stand up for what was right. This helped her earn her place in history as an important African American.

First, Rosa Parks’ early life started off in a small town. Rosa Parks was born on February 4th, 1913. She was born in Tuskegee, Alabama (Biography.com). Even as a child, Rosa Parks always knew about the discrimination between the black and the white people(Gordon). Parks’ parents separated, so Rosa Parks stayed with her mother, and her dad left forever(biography.com.) Rosa parks was home schooled. Her mother taught her how to read and write. Rosa Parks talked about how segregation has affected the African American society(Gordon). Rosa parks had many speeches and would always speak from her heart (Theoharis). In early december 1955 Rosa Parks was sitting on a seat that was in the black people section on the bus (Parks,1). Rosa parks was arrested that day and asked this question, “Why do you push us around?” the white police officer responded with “I do not know, but the law is the law and you are under arrest (parks,1).
