Introduction

Like a rocket in anxious anticipation to be launched, an athlete in a race set and ready to Go and a gun locked and loaded, I am in countdown mode waiting patiently for my launch time. The experiences that I have gained during the different phases of my career have caused me to be ready for launch day and the invaluable life experiences has enable me to develop both personally and professionally. Notwithstanding, this module has caused me to discover, identify and monitor those areas in my professional life that needs improvement and ways in which I can make my contributions as a global citizen. I have always been an individual to randomly progress with “sporadic” goals that aren’t usually strategically planned but will somehow be my next “to-do” task. According to (Throop, 1993), “thinking about goals is not enough. It is important to write them down”. Little did I know that whilst I might have acquired invaluable experiences, continuing on this path of not having a clear destination would have been detrimental to my growth as an upcoming professional.
My journey towards excellence started with my first career experience at the age of 17 years old as a Clerical Trainee Assistant and progressed to my present role as an IT consultant where I have been tasked with various responsibilities. According to (Goleman, 1996), self-awareness has to do with your ability to assess the way you feel and how you can accurately assess your emotions.
