Case Study of Client X: Intervention Plan for Enhancing Physical Activity and Reducing Joint Pain By Sebastian Brown Word Count: 1000.

Participant Overview

Client X is a 58-year-old female seeking to improve her ability to complete activities of daily living (ADLs) and alleviate joint pain from chronic arthritis. Following menopause and 16 months post-Achilles surgery, she began engaging in physical activity 12 months post-operation. Client X enjoys walking with friends, swimming, and resistance training but feels a lack of confidence in engaging in physical activity due to fear of re-injury and a perceived decline in physical capabilities. She desires more variety in her exercise routine to make physical activity enjoyable rather than burdensome. Client X, at 163 cm and 68 kg, has a BMI of 25.6 kg/m2, categorising her as overweight according to The National Heart Foundation (Atherton et al., 2018). Based on an extensive interview, two main goals were established for Client X: (1) Improve ability to complete ADLs and (2) Reduce weight into the healthy BMI range (below 25 kg/m2).

A structured physical activity program will be developed to include walking, swimming, and resistance training tailored to Client X's capabilities and interests. This program will progressively increase in intensity and variety to maintain engagement and minimise re-injury risk. This intervention draws on the COM-B model, focusing on Capability and Opportunity. The structured program increases physical capability through gradual progression and creates opportunities for Client X to engage in enjoyable activities without fear of re-aggravating her injury (Michie et al., 2011).
