On page 425 of the textbook, the author states, “Between 1953 and the mid-1990s, climbers left an estimated 50 tons of glass, plastic, and metal on Mount Everest...One Japanese team came back with 2.6 tons of garbage, including old tents, fuel bottles, and plastic.” From this, one can infer that trash being left behind in Mount Everest isn’t good for the mountain because yaks can eat the garbage which might harm the animals. The mountain will soon be full with garbage preventing other climbers to be able to climb to the summit safely with all the garbage on the way. Furthermore, Climbing Mount Everest isn’t safe for the environment because the routes aren’t that safe. According to the book, Peak, the author states, “Camp Four was tiny, and to make it worse, there was a gaping crevasse running beneath the crest, which I’d read was getting wider every year” (pg# 160). I can infer that if many people continue using this route, one day it will collapse on some climbers and can kill them. Therefore, climbing Mount Everest isn’t safe because the mountain is changing and can’t sustain many climbers as when as the amount of garbage leave behind when climbing
