Closed- head injuries can be another cause of brain damage. These occur when the skull is not penetrated but the brain has received damage due to receiving blows to the head. These types of injuries are very evident in high contact sports such as boxing. According to Adams, Doyle, Graham & Scott (1980) contusions are the most frequent evidence of brain damage after a head injury. These occur when there is damage to the cerebral circulatory system. Another type of closed- head injury is a concussion. This is associated with a disturbance of consciousness.
