Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and Behavioral Therapy are the main therapeutic models used in my field placement to treat a wide range of cognitive schemas. Cognitive schemas are core beliefs that determine how a person categorizes and interprets his/her experiences and are supported by cognitive distortions and revealed in automatic thoughts. The primary goal was to change their mindset by modifying dysfunctional cognitions that are maintaining the client’s maladaptive behaviors and emotions. This is the fundamental concept of the CBT as it based on the idea that how we think (cognition), how we feel (emotion) and how we act (behavior) all intertwine.
