In addition to redefining traditional family values to include homosexual couples and couples with transmen and transwomen, society must disregard individualistic value systems and adopt a more collectivist approach. Collectivist cultures identify with the group, engage in activities together, and promote reciprocity (Mindess, 2006). Collectivism not only promotes the importance of interpersonal relations and family interconnection, but also encourages the idea of collective goods. In order for homosexual couples and transmen or transwomen to have biological children, the pool of common goods must now include resources such as sperm donations and surrogate mothers. Progressive people must be the first to promote the idea of these resources …show more content…
Currently, the population continues to grow because of increased longevity and expansion of the aging population. If immediate action to combat the problem of underpopulation is not implemented, the world, specifically developed nations, will confront the economic hardships caused by the un-proportionate increase in the elderly population and immigration. The decline in fertility rates is distinguished as the underlying cause of underpopulation. But, the cause of fertility has yet to be determined. The contributing factors of desired wealth, increased education for women, and delay of marriage, can all be organized as an alteration of value systems where individuality is the overarching theme. In order to increase fertility, society must join forces to redefine traditional family values, advocate for all people to have more children, including homosexual couples and couples with transmen or transwomen. This will ultimately lead to a collectivist society where common goods include the necessary resources for all couples, despite gender expression and sexual orientation to bear children. Eventually, if these actions are full-heartedly pursued the world will escape the adverse effects of
