It is my senior year in high school and after being a four-year letterman and an assistant captain for my high school hockey team, I made the decision that it was time for a break when I go off to college. However I had made the most of my last four years on my high school hockey team. Just this year (senior year) our team picked up 11 brand new players that had never stepped foot onto the ice before. The returning players knew there were going to be a challenges along the way due to the brand new incoming talent, but that didn’t stop me. I took that as an opportunity to lead by example and show the new kids the way of the game. I helped show them how to skate, how to shoot the puck, and just as my dad had done for me, I helped teach them how to love the game. Even though we didn’t have the best statistics this year, I didn’t mind. What mattered to me was that I gave it my all, and helped make a positive impact on the players for the sport I have come to love. However, leadership doesn’t just stop there. I plan to continue leading by example throughout my life because there is nothing more gratifying than helping
