The campaign for independence was paramount. The most notable act of rebellion was the Boston Tea Party. Men boarded a ship along the Boston Harbor and dumped all the tea into the ocean. As a form of retaliation the British Parliament placed the Intolerable Acts of 1774. The Intolerable Acts were a group of Acts intended to punish Massachusetts and recover the lost revenue from the Boston Tea Party. It allotted parliament government, judicial, and financial control, so laws even affected the other colonies. All these laws were not taken well by America to them it was a British conspiracy reminding them that the British have well being, liberties, and rights in the palm of their hands. On September 5th, 1774 delegates came from each colony to Philadelphia for the FCC. Since Parliament was not allowed to hold political meeting without the British imbedding themselves they were going against authority, the Crown my even consider this treason. That day the Continental Congress decided to approve the Continental Association. This law declared that Congress would boycott English goods beginning December 1, 1774 and they suggested some resolutions to get the Intolerable Acts repealed. One of these resolutions was know as the Suffolk Revolves, which warned the Suffolk County residents that they need to prepare for resistance. They patiently waited for the British Parliaments’ response. Moments later Parliament answered that the colonies must fight for their independence through war. The divide between the loyalists and the patriots really showed though at this time. Many loyalists fled to England because they feared for their lives while the patriots prepared for war against Gage.
