Actively participating in the world around us ensures a deeper understanding of different cultures and customs. Engagement begins with family and expands to the world. Traveling with my immediate family to see our extended family has created a close bond between all sides of my family. Visiting Cancun, Mexico provided me with an opportunity to witness other cultures while I was still young. A few years later, we traveled to Saint Thomas in the Caribbean and I experienced the layer back life style of islanders. I spend most of my time at color guard practices and competitions throughout the school year with my closest friends. When we have a day off, we love going out to eat together, shopping, and even studying. I attend small group once a week with my other friends and volunteer with this group at the Children’s Attention Home. As a member of my community, I step in to help whenever I observe a need or see a problem. Volunteering in the children’s area of my church and the local humane society are two of my passions within my community. Through my school I participate in Beta Club and color guard which continually teach me time management and selflessness. I am driven in school to reach my highest potential and make connections with my teachers for educational opportunities outside of school. …show more content…
In these leadership roles, I work with the rest of the leadership team to help new members learn basic skills, organize the storage areas, and prepare the group for competitions. As a the Kiva project leader in the Beta Club, I manage one of the many projects available to members to gain points to maintain yearly membership. I collect money from members which go towards micro loans for individuals looking to further their businesses and provide for their families in third world
