To me, learning how to become a leader is something that occurs over time. As for colorguard, I can truly say that this was the case. As a freshman, I obviously was not in a leadership position, but I was taught many valuable things such as holding myself accountable, time management, giving respect before receiving it, and rising to any occasion without anybody telling me to do so. I continued to adhere to those lessons and discover new ones throughout my years in this activity.
When I became captain, not only have I taken the previous lessons and apply them to leading a group of individuals, but I also make an effort to continue getting information from my teammates in order to be a better leader. During my time as captain, …show more content…
I do not believe that there are many sports that emphasize teamwork while being responsible for your own person, working hard in the activity and outside of it, and creating a desire to want what is best for the team, rather than an individual person. I have made endless friends that I would refer to my family, and have gained knowledge that can be utilized way beyond this activity. It is a lot of hard work, but it is a great moment when we as a team get to enjoy the fruits of our labor. One of the most exciting moments for me was when my team won state championships two years in a row. It was such a beautiful feeling to know that we all worked very hard and people recognized
