Paine’s intended audience was directed towards the uneducated. Because his work was printed as a pamphlet, it allowed for easy access to any person who desired to read it. The title of his publication directly implies that the style of writing lends itself to those who were less educated. David C. Hoffman conducted an analysis of Paine’s Common Sense, implying at one point that Paine purposely created a simple title in which everyone should be able to understand and read. Those who had not read Paine’s work or even worse, disagreed with him, were forced to feel inferior because of their opinion. Hoffman confirms this by stating, “In effect, Paine is claiming that any disagreement with the premise he has established is a result of prejudice.
