Early memories, include just my mom and I. One of these memories is my mom recollecting upon her time in Colorado Springs. She always mentioned the remarkable individuals who came from the Air Force Academy and the amazing opportunities the Academy offered. As the economic situation for our family worsened, I quickly realized a better future for myself was entirely dependent on my hard work and perseverance. Fortunately, I not only live in a nation with immeasurable opportunity for all, but I also remembered my mom’s stories of a place that would take someone in as family and give them a chance to prove yourself. If I were to gain acceptance to an impactful institution, I’d immediately enroll myself in that university’s Air Force or Naval Reserve Officer Training Corp to serve my institution, my community and my nation. Furthermore, I’d involve myself in the local community as much as possible through ROTC and the institution itself. My dedication to volunteering has shown me that service is one of the most valuable aspects of life; a traditional university will give me the best opportunity to pursue service in more ways than one. Additionally, coming from a single-parent household living off public assistance I’ve learned to value the opportunity our nation provides for its citizens and I’m willing to defend this opportunity with my life.
