There are clear differences between Andrew Jackson’s message to Congress and Michael Rutledge’s account of his great-great grandfather. Andrew Jackson depicts the Indians as dangerous savages that are harmful to themselves and others while Michael Rutledge’s point of view shows them as very normal people who have had their lives uprooted and destroyed. The two articles show opposite accounts of what happened during that time.

From the beginning of both articles the stage is set on how it will read. Andrew Jackson’s message is intended to be upbeat and how it will be great for all people that the Indians are removed from their land.
