Beowulf reflects the Anglo-Saxon culture by always following and living his life according to the code. The code entails loyalty, reputation, generosity, and revenge. Beowulf goes to Hrothgar to help him because he heard of the terrors they were going to and Beowulf father was in debt to Hrothgar. Beowulf defeated Grendel to pay the debt of loyalty that his father had towards Hrothgar and he wanted to protect their reputation and be loyal to Hrothgar.
