Medea and Nikolaz Cruz, though one fictional and one real, both have similar motives for committing murder. Medea had gone through the emotionally scarring experience of leaving her country, killing her brother, and moving to an unfamiliar land with her new husband, a “trophy from a barbarian country” (lines 296-7). Nikolas was adopted at birth, and raised in a very loving, conservative household. When he was five his dad died in front of his eyes, causing his whole life flip upside down. Later on, Nikolas was diagnosed with depression, ADHD, autism, OCD, and anger issues, not unlike Medea, who had borderline personality disorder. Both Medea and Nikolas were outsiders.
