Jordan is telling Nick Gatsby’s story of his love for Daisy. After Jordan asks Nick to invite Daisy to his house, Nick realizes, “ The modesty of the demand shook me. He had waited five years and bought a mansion where he dispensed starlight to casual moths—so that he could come over some afternoon to a stranger’s garden.” (Fitzgerald 78) Gatsby bought his mansion so he can be closer to Daisy.
