Long, long ago, before the prosperous nations we know today came to be, the people of the ancient realms of India and China were grappling with the need for looking into life's meaning and the actions of people within a society as well as social structure. Out of a need for order and stability, Confucianism and Hinduism emerged in China and India respectively. Although Confucianism emerged out of a turbulent time in China's history, the Warring States Period, Hinduism was more a gradual evolution of belief systems among the ancient Indian peoples. The ancient Chinese and Indians both manipulated the same set of ideals and principles to mold their societies in ways that would work best for them. Although Hinduism and Confucianism both have the same core sets of moral and ethical values, the way they were augmented by each society determined the long-lasting impacts they would have on each society as a whole. These beliefs gave the ancient people a goal to work towards as well as the reassurance that what they were doing would be beneficial. Using Confucianism and Hinduism, the ancient Chinese and Indians were able to drastically improve their government to make it more powerful and centralized, to establish a strong sense of gender roles in the social realm, and also to create a solid social stratification amongst the civilians.
