In 1607, the first successful English civilization known as The Jamestown Colony developed in North America along the James River in Virginia. Led by Captain John Smith, the colony began to flourish, luring settlers through the promise of free land and imported goods such as tobacco seeds, rice and fur. The colonists’ want for additional land led them to clash with the natives because they didn’t want to live amongst them or intermarry. In 1624, widespread attacks to the conquer the natives began when King James declared Virginia as a royal colony of Great Britain.
On the European side, the nations followed an economic strategy to enhance their wealth called Mercantilism, a theory and practice shared in Europe in the 16th century. England
