On December 6, 1865 Abraham Lincoln added the thirteenth amendment to the constitution. This amendment was the result of The Civil War, and it made owning slaves illegal. The Civil War was the event that finally abolished all of America from slavery. Ever since America’s birth there were many who opposed slavery, but in fear of losing unity they were forced to overlook this event and consider it a necessary evil. The two people directly responsible for starting the abolitionist movement were William Lloyd Garrison and Harriet Tubman.
